Seaplane Flips Over Near Whitsunday Island In Australia

Eleven On Board, One Passenger Airlifted To A Local Hospital

A seaplane with 11 passengers on board flipped over Thursday off the Australian coast northeast of Queensland. Everyone on board survived the accident, but one passenger, a 25-year-old woman, was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

The U.K. newspaper The Daily Mail reports that the Cessna 208 seaplane appears to have clipped a wave and flipped over as it landed at Whitsunday Island off the Queensland coast. The airplane was coming into Chance Bay when it bounced and went down in some vegetation on the beach, the paper reported.

The one passenger was transported by helicopter to Proserpine Hospital. The others were taken by a private boat back to Hamilton Island, where they were treated.

The ATSB has not said whether it will open an investigation into the accident.
