Grinstein In Charge

Seven New Executives On Board At Delta And They All Report To Him

Gerald Grinstein is indeed "the man" at Delta. Five months after being picked to run the airline, Grinstein Wednesday chose seven people to run the company underneath him -- all of whom report directly to him. There is no president of Delta. There's no heir to the throne, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The 71-year old Grinstein (below) is the king of Delta.

The Atlanta paper reports the "Delta Seven" include Paul Matsen, 44, who becomes marketing chief; Joe Kolshak, 47, the new operations czar; and Lee Macenczak, 42, who moves from the marketing division to head human resources.Vicki Escarra, an executive vice president and the sole holdover from the prior executive team, gives up marketing oversight to focus on customer service.

"I think what Jerry's trying to do is flatten the organization," said Matsen. "We're trying to build an organization that is able to focus on customers and that has very straightforward lines of responsibility. We clearly face some big challenges in the future," said Matsen. "We believe that this is a team that can work well together."
