Cubic Awarded Contracts To Support F-35 Air Combat Training

System Will Allow JSF To Maintain Stealth Characteristics While Training

A contract to produce and enhance the Air Combat Training System (ACTS) in the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) has been awarded to Cubic Global Defense by F-35 prime contractor Lockheed Martin.

Cubic will incorporate an internally mounted subsystem of the P5 Combat Training System (P5CTS) that enables the F-35 to maintain its stealth characteristics while training. The P5CTS is designed to provide secure, real-time and post-mission training for air-to-air, air-to-ground and surface-to-air combat missions by displaying live-air picture, recording mission data, and relaying time, space and positioning information between participating aircraft during training sorties.

“We are very proud to continue to team with Lockheed Martin to support the fifth generation community. This latest award demonstrates Cubic’s long history of delivering air combat training solutions to air forces across the globe and assures the F-35 community an integrated and comprehensive secure training environment including previous generations and other F-35 aircraft,” said Bill Toti, president of Cubic Global Defense.

The JSF P5 is an encrypted training system that is interoperable with the P5CTS/Tactical Combat Training System (TCTS) used by the U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and many international partners at more than 30 sites worldwide. Under the new Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP) contract, Cubic will produce additional JSF P5 systems. Upon completion of this contract, Cubic will have delivered over 250 JSF P5CTS under the LRIP phase of the program.

As the prime contractor, Cubic is responsible for performance in all areas of systems engineering and for development, integration and installation of the ground instrumentation subsystem. Engineering work for the training systems will be performed in San Diego and Fort Walton Beach, FL.
