L-3 Offers 90-Day Underwater Locator Beacon Upgrades

Will Update Recorder Product Line

L-3 Aviation Products (L-3 AP) is now offering an underwater locator beacon that is in compliance with the new 90-day operational standard published in TSO-C121b for all L-3 recorder products. This offer comes after the FAA announced that it will no longer be granting TSO-C121 or C121a approvals to beacons manufactured after December 1, 2015. Over the coming months EASA is expected to publish ETSO requirements that are in line with the FAA standards.

“We expect the entire industry to move toward a 90-day underwater locator beacon standard,” said Ralph DeMarco, vice president of marketing and sales for L-3 AP. “L-3 is providing an easy retrofit path for our customers needing to upgrade their underwater locator beacons.”

Retrofit kits are available to upgrade existing equipment in accordance with the 90-day beacon mandate, allowing operators to remain in factory Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) compliance as they upgrade their fielded recorders. For the time being, L-3 will continue to support legacy recorder equipment by offering 30-day beacon battery exchange kits. An optional beacon test kit compatible with both the 30-day and 90-day beacons will also be available for routine maintenance.
