Cessna Beefs Up The Workforce

Will Hire 400 Workers

And, lo, the clouds parted, the rains ceased and the winds died down. The storm appeared to be over.

Cessna is hiring 400 workers -- many of them who had been previously laid off. Could it be that the dark days which have plagued the aviation industry in an almost Biblical sense have finally passed?

"We are currently working on our new products and ramping them up, such as the (Citation) CJ3 and the Sovereign," said Cessna spokeswoman Jessica Myers in an interview with the Wichita Eagle.

That's remarkable, considering Cessna cut more than 3,300 jobs since the industry downturn after 9/11. Last summer, the company gave about 6,000 of its workers -- two-thirds of its entire force -- an unpaid vacation for several weeks.

Myers says the announcement "is very good news," an indication that "things might be turning around."

We can only hope....
