When All Else Fails: Dr. Richard McGlaughlin’s BRS Deployment

Revolutionary Technology Adopted By Alan Klapmeier's GA Revolution Used To Save Two More Lives... And A Mission

This is one of Aero-TV's most compelling stories to date...

ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell had a chance to sit down with Dr. Richard McGlaughlin and talk with him about a situation none of us would like to be in. His story starts when he and his daughter picked up his Cirrus SR22 after some maintenance in Miami and later departed on a flight to Haiti.

While en route to Haiti, Dr. McGlaughlin noticed the oil pressure was 10 psi lower than normal. It didn’t take long for the dropping oil pressure to reach zero and the engine seized. It was obvious he could not make it to his alternate airport and the decision was made to deploy the BRS-designed ballistic recovery parachute and land in the water.

Dr. McGlaughlin’s story of his flight is stunning in detail, and his review of his own performance is inspiring. This is a must see video. By the time you hear Dr. McGlaughlin talk about his experience you’ll agree that he made “a decision he could live with.”
