Drone Base Completes 10,000th Mission

Company Matches Drone Pilots With Jobs In All 50 States

Drone Base, a clearinghouse that matches commercial drone pilots with companies seeking drone services, recently completed its 10,000th mission.

The milestone flight was conducted at a construction site outside Boston, MA. Writing on the Drone Base blog, CEO Dan Burton said that the pilot, identified only as Michael K., used his DJI Inspire One Pro aircraft for the job. Drone Base presented Michael with a new DJI Phantom 4 Pro for his help in reaching the milestone.

Michel wrote on the blog that he is a licensed pilot and owner of a Mooney Ovation with more than 4,000 hours in his logbook over 44 years of flying. He was one of the first people in Massachusetts to be granted a Section 333 waiver before the FAA changed the rules to allow non-pilots to get Remote Pilot Certificates. "Whenever possible, I try to fly in tandem with my son, Rob: I fly the aircraft, and he “flies” the camera," Michael wrote. "We’ve come up with creative shots that would have been difficult or impossible to accomplish with a single-pilot setup."

"we are incredibly grateful to every single pilot who trusts DroneBase to provide challenging, engaging activities to do with your drone," Burton wrote. "Drone pilots are at the heart of this company and we know what it feels like to be out in the field – sweating in the heat, freezing in the cold, getting an unknown compass error, hot-swapping batteries, and getting questioned by random onlookers mid-flight. We believe being a drone pilot is a profession and we are so impressed by your investments of skill, equipment, time, and effort to perfect your craft."
