Former Platinum Jet Management Pilot Sentenced

Admitted To Conspiracy To Defraud The U.S., Wire Fraud

A pilot for a now-closed Florida jet charter company has been sentenced six months in federal prison following a guilty plea on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and defrauding the United States.

Francis Vieira of Fort Lauderdale, FL, admitted to the conspiracy last September, and was sentenced Monday in Newark, NJ. The Associated Press reports that he admitted flying commercial charters for a company not licenced for the flights, as well as falsifying FAA paperwork.

The company gained notoriety when one of its planes that went down at Teterboro Airport was found to be overloaded with fuel. 22 people were injured in the accident, in which Vieira was not involved.
