Questions Raised About Charges Against SC Skydiving Operation

Skydive Myrtle Beach Seeks Documentation Of Alleged Violations

The legal battle between Horry County, SC and Skydive Myrtle Beach has required swimming through some pretty murky waters, and there does not seem to be an end in sight.

Writing for the Grand Strand Daily's column SC Hotline. Paul Gable asks several questions about the row between the county and the veteran-owned skydiving business.

The county bought Ramp 66 in 2013, and it appears that the Horry County Department of Airports (HCDA) almost immediately began to try to close Skydive Myrtle Beach. The skydiving operation eventually filed a discrimination complaint with the FAA. That was when the county began to say that there had been 112 safety violations on the part of the skydiving operation ... though the company has never been fully informed about the specifics of those alleged violations most of which is supposedly outlined in a 73-page report that the FAA says it is unable to locate.

There is a pending lawsuit in the SC Court of Appeals, which might force the issue, and Gable says could provide some insight into how Horry County, SC operates its GA airports.
