Western Aircraft Installs First Skandia Soundproofing Kit On PC-12

Received FAA STC Approval In June

Western Aircraft, a Greenwich AeroGroup company, announced it has completed its first installation of the Skandia soundproofing system on a Pilatus PC-12 aircraft.

Skandia’s acoustic soundproofing kit for the PC-12 received FAA STC approval in June of this year, its goal to reduce cabin noise, increase passenger comfort and improve thermal insulation properties of the aircraft. Western Aircraft technicians installed the most modern and effective materials developed for the kit, including skin damping, floor damping, thermal acoustic insulation bags, overframe blankets and carpet pads.

“The installation went flawlessly, and we were able to achieve a 4 db (SIL) sound reduction,” said Steve Denny, Western Aircraft’s Interior Completions Manager. “We’re excited to announce the inclusion of this installation as an available upgrade for all turboprop and Citation aircraft.”

Acoustic enhancement systems for the PC-12 can be done during annual inspections, requiring no additional downtime. Western Aircraft has worked extensively with Skandia materials, including insulation packages and upholstery products, and is an authorized service center for Pilatus, Beechcraft, and Quest turboprop aircraft.
