Indian Airlines Cleared For Big Airbus Purchase

43 Aircraft In The Pipeline

An Indian cabinet committee Thursday approved Indian Airlines' purchase of 43 Airbus aircraft -- a mix of A319s, A320s and A321s. The first of the deliveries will come in the second half of next year, according to news reports from New Delhi.

As part of the deal, Airbus will also build a $75 million training center in India, along with an MRO facility worth an estimated $100 million. The Indian government also obtained trade concessions from France as part of the deal.

After the first delivery sometime after June, 2006, Indian Airlines will get approximately one aircraft every month until the contract is fulfilled.
