Sierra Space Successfully Beta Tests Space Ghost

Space Ghost Logistics Spacecraft Soars in Beta Test

Sierra Space has successfully beta-tested its revolutionary logistics spacecraft, Sierra Space Ghost. This new technology aims to redefine national security space and space logistics by enabling the rapid delivery of critical defense supplies globally.

The Sierra Space Ghost Beta decelerator, a part of the company's Sierra Space Axelerator incubator, is a thermal protection system designed for the safe return of small payloads from space. Last month, the first drop test was completed in Florida, allowing Sierra Space test engineers to understand the flight characteristics of the system and how to rapidly complete recovery operations on the ground.

Tom Vice, CEO of Sierra Space, emphasized the speed of innovation, stating, "This test enables us to build, test, learn and accelerate the development of a revolutionary new operational asset for national security." The company envisions having an inventory of Sierra Space Ghost vehicles strategically positioned and deployable within 90 minutes to critical locations anywhere on Earth, providing vital resources to frontline personnel with unparalleled precision and speed.

Sierra Space conducted three drop tests at Space Florida's Launch and Landing Facility, with support from Operator Solutions. The tests assessed impact dynamics, payload integrity, controlled descent, and advanced payload return capabilities. These tests were part of the 90-day testing campaign under the Sierra Space Axelerator charter, which aims to fast-track the development of revolutionary defense technologies and mission solutions.

The Sierra Space Ghost will now undergo a robust beta testing program to develop operations in real time, considering the infrastructure, architecture, communications system, and data system needed to operate the spacecraft. With $1.3 billion in prime satellite constellations contracts, Sierra Space continues to focus on innovative national security solutions through its Orbital Missions and Services organization.
