Gary Jet Center Sues Gary/Chicago International Airport Authority

Says The Airport "Unilaterally" Quadrupled Its Rent

Gary Jet Center, a tenant at the Gary/Chicago International Airport, has filed a lawsuit against the airport authority and its private operator over a rent dispute.

The FBO claims that the airport authority "quadrupled" its rent unilaterally, and the lawsuit seeks a permanent injunction against the authority's attempt to impose a 1.5 percent fee on tenant's gross revenues.

The Associated Press reports that the FBO manages three hangars and a passenger lounge at the airport. In the suit filed last Thursday in U.S. District Court, Gary Jet Center says that the airport authority and the private management company AvPorts cannot make such changes in the company's lease signed in 2007. That least, which runs through 2046, has the company paying 50 cents per square foot and an additional 10 percent fee on revenues.

AvPort has managed the airport since 2014.
