Classic Aero-TV: Living the Dream – ANG’s John Klatt Performs at EAA

From 2010 (YouTube Version): Aero-TV Takes to the Skies Alongside ANG’s John Klatt

John Klatt is a man who truly lives and breathes aviation.

As the pilot for John Klatt Airshows, he travels across the country bringing stunning aerobatic performances to aviation enthusiasts and aerobatic experts alike. Flying for over 23 years with over 13,000 hours of flight time, Klatt took an interest in flying shortly after high school.

After discovering the Air National Guard while a student at the University of Minnesota, Klatt joined the ANG pilot training program where he earned his wings at the Air Force in Texas. Now assigned to the Air Guard in Minnesota, as part of the 148th fighter wing of the Duluth Air National Guard, Klatt flies both the C-130 Hercules and the F-16 when not performing aerobatics on the weekends.

Continually seeking to improve his skills and further his expertise as a pilot, Klatt began to train and participate in aerobatic contests across the country. Drawn by the high-level of concentration and mental stamina, Klatt quickly became passionate about aerobatic performance. After teaming up with the Air National Guard, Klatt formed the John Klatt Airshows offering the opportunity to both share his love of aviation and his love of the benefits and opportunities afforded by the Air Guard for aviation enthusiasts.

Today, Klatt performs in the Staudacher S-300D. Handcrafted by John Staudacher in Bay City, Michigan, no two aircraft are exactly alike, with each frame being tweaked to match the exact specifications and needs of the pilot. Designed to withstand more than +/- 20 G’s, the Staudacher S-300D can handle twice the load of the F-16 “Fighting Falcon” that Klatt flies while serving the Air Guard.

When not performing or serving on behalf of the Air Guard, Klatt serves as first officer with a major U.S. commercial airline. Join Aero-TV as John Klatt describes his experience finally performing at the world renowned EAA AirVenture.
