Model Airplane In Georgia Takes Ground Fire

Flying A Remote Control Model Airplane Is Tricky Enough Without Getting It Shot At

Having your airplane shot at is something none of us want to experience but if it has to happen, it’s better that the pilot is on the ground while he airplane is flying. You see, the airplane in this case was a remote control model being flown by Robert LaCount over an open field in Georgia.

As reported in the Athens Banner Herald newspaper, LaCount said, “It’s not unusual when I’m flying for people to stop and watch, but I hadn’t never been shot at.” He described his flying area as, “a perfect place to fly. A pasture on one side [of the road] and a field on the other and no power lines.” He described the attack by saying, “It [the plane] got up the road a couple hundred yards and I was doing some loops and the next thing I know I hear three gun shots.”

According to the report, LaCount said he saw a dark-colored GMC or Chevrolet pickup truck speed off after the shooting. He could only get a brief look at the vehicle because he was busy trying to fly his airplane out of harm’s way. He was able to bring his airplane back to the field for a safe landing and then notified police of the incident.

LaCount indicated that the next time he sees a car he might fly the airplane a little higher to give him a better chance to look at the vehicle.
