Digital Autopilot STC, TSO Granted To Avidyne

DFC90 Authorized For SR20, SR22 Models

Breaking News! Avidyne tells ANN that it has just received a signed STC and TSO authorization for the installation of the DFC90 digital autopilot in Cirrus SR20 and SR22 airplanes. Avidyne's Tom Harper calls this development "The start of a new era for Avidyne."

The DFC90 is an attitude-based Digital Flight Control System which is an upgrade specifically for Cirrus SR20 and SR22 aircraft with Avidyne's Entegra Release 8 Flight Deck Systems. It adds the precision of an attitude-based flight control system and Avidyne's innovative, safety-enhancing Flight Envelope Protection capability, inlcuding safety enhancements such as a Straight & Level mode that provides one-button unusual attitude recovery. It is an integrated flight computer and control panel that is designed as a slide-in replacement for existing rate-based STEC 55X flight computers.

Avidyne also received TSO approval for Release 8.0, which is the Primary Flight Display (PFD) software upgrade needed to make the Entegra EXP5000 PFD compatible with the DFC90.

"The significant performance and safety benefits of the attitude-based DFC90 make it a very attractive upgrade for the more than 4,000 owners of Entegra-equipped Cirrus aircraft," said Patrick Herguth, Avidyne's Chief Executive Officer.

"The certification of the DFC90 is a significant achievement for Avidyne, as we have expanded our product line to become a full-line avionics manufacturer," said Avidyne president Dan Schwinn. "Avidyne is committed to continuously enhancing safety for all of our customers, and the DFC90 provides owners of Entegra-equipped Cirrus aircraft with next-generation attitude-based autopilot capability."

Certification of the DFC100 (one of the first of which had BETTER be heading for OUR airplane... ahem), which is designed for the Entegra Release 9 system, is expected later this year.

More details are coming soon.
