Thirteen Reno-Area Youth Awarded Flight Training Scholarships

Reno Air Racing Association Presents Awards

The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) has announced the recipients for its 2024 Flight Training Scholarship (FTS) program. They are all from Reno, Nevada, and the surrounding areas.

Each will receive up to $10,000 to be used to cover the training expenses incurred to earn their Private Pilot certificates.

The scholarship program has grown since its initial launch in 2022 and a total of $300,000 in funding has been awarded to date. Even as the National Championship Air Races are moving, the scholarship program will continue uninterrupted. After being held in Reno for over 60 years and generating as much as $150 million annually for the local economy, the event will take place in Roswell, New Mexico, in 2025.

The recipients are:

  • Gavin Ashby (Chris Rushing Memorial Scholarship)
  • Kiera Grange (Si Robin Scholarship)
  • Avery Redmon (Getchel Scholarship)
  • Maksymillian Barger
  • Tristan Bautista
  • Antonio Berto
  • Alex Florez
  • Jared Garrido
  • Evan Grey
  • John Hamilton
  • Benjamin Weaver
  • Zachary Wells
  • Zeus Wesley

To qualify for the program, applicants must be between 16 and 20 years of age, have a high school GPA of 3.0 or above, pass the FAA Private Pilot written exam, and be a resident of Reno or the surrounding area.
