Beringer Aero's Landing Gear Products Continue To Innovate

Beringer Equipped Solar Impulse And New Products Fuel Beringer's Momentum

By Anthony Liberatore

The landing gear on your airplane may be something that you only think about when you need it, but it's literally where the rubber meets the "road" at the airport, or off-airport for that matter.

At EAA Press Headquarters Wednesday, Beringer Wheels and Brakes Director of Worldwide Sales and Marketing Claire Beringer (pictured) said this has been a busy year that included new product launches and the excitement of being the wheel supplier for the Sun Flyer.

Berninger began her presentation describing Beringer's Alaskan Landing Gear. This bolt-on system for the Experimental marketplace is available for  Experimental Super Cub type aircraft, the Maverick, the Just Aircraft Highlander and the Carbon Cub. This system is a 3” extended gear with 12” of travel, no weight increase and the G-Factor test has proven that the system imparts 3 time less structural impact on the airframe on landing. Beringer noted a STC version of this gear will be available for type certificated aircraft by the end of this year.

Beringer also unveiled a wheel and brake kit for the popular RV-10 and RV-14 aircraft. These anodized aluminum wheels are CNC machined from billet and are equipped with tubeless tires for a lesser risk of tire punctures and are also equipped with sealed bearings. This Beringer upgrade comes in three separate kits, a Fuselage kit, a finishing kit, and a nose wheel kit. Beringer said a wheel and brake kit is now also available for the Pitts S1 and the Christen Eagle aircraft and they share the common theme of the RV kits of being machined from billets, tubeless tires, and sealed bearings among other characteristics.

Another product Beringer discussed was their collaborative effort with Airframe Alaska and their 26” Bush Tire combined with a Beringer wheel assembly that meets the European bush aircraft weight requirement of 1320 lbs. Beringer is the exclusive distributor of this wheel in the European market. Beringer was  beaming while discussing Solar Impulses round the world flight and their participation as it is Beringer equipped and also as a unique radial tire that runs pressures in the 200 psi arena.  Beringer said “it was a breathtaking experience for the Beringer Team."
