AeroSports Update: Skydiving Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony Set

The Hall Of Fame Weekend Starting October 11 Is A Fundraiser For The National Skydiving Museum

The recreational sport of skydiving has become so popular that the Skydiving Museum Hall of Fame, in Fredericksburg, VA was founded to recognize participants of the sport that stand out in their deeds and character. On October 11, five more skydiving legends will be inducted into the National Skydiving Museum Hall of Fame, joining 23 others in this prestigious society.

Recognized as a popular recreational sport, it also happens to be an aeronautical activity that has been around for a long time. The first parachute concepts were conceived in the 1400s and successful parachute descents were first recorded in the late 1700s. While it took World War I to fully develop the technology, it became a recognized sport in the 1930s with international competition becoming commonplace in the 1950s.

This Skydiving Hall of Fame celebration recognizes and honors those who, through leadership, innovation, and/or outstanding achievements, have defined, promoted, inspired and advanced skydiving at the highest and sustained levels in the past and present as well as for future generations.

Attendees of the celebration will meet the Hall of Fame Inductees – both current and past, make lots of skydives, get a Legend to sign skydiving logbooks, and see old friends and make new ones. The Hall of Fame Weekend is a prestigious event that brings together old timers and young superstars; they are all joining together for a festive weekend of skydiving and other jump activities.

This year’s event will honor the 2014 Hall of Fame inductees along with the US Army Parachute Team, the Golden Knights. Inductees include: Jerry Bourquin, Dan BC, Norman Heaton, Chris Needels, and Helmut Schlecht.

This Hall of Fame weekend is a fundraiser for the National Skydiving Museum. The event is open to all past and current skydivers from anywhere in the world, and anyone else interested in the sport.
