Austin Executive Airport Keeps Building Up

2200 Foot Grass Strip Underway

ANN has received an update assuring us that construction continues at a robust pace at Austin Executive Airport (KEDC), Texas' newest, privately funded general aviation airport. As the airport moves toward opening in spring 2011, the dirt work is complete for a 2,200-foot grass runway to accommodate even more general aviation aircraft, creating new construction jobs in Eastern Travis County.

As part of Austin Executive's $33 million Master Plan, the airport will boast a variety of amenities including Henriksen Jet Center, a 27,500-square-foot premier FBO terminal building, a 6,025-foot runway and taxiway, fuel farm and a 29,000-square-foot corporate hangar which can accommodate up to Gulfstream V aircraft along with a 140 X 85 arrival canopy.

The airport is expected to open in the second quarter of 2011. A live web camera feed of terminal building and hangar construction can be viewed at the airport's web site.

"We are very excited about the impact Austin Executive Airport will have on the aviation community, as well as the citizens of Texas," said airport owner and developer Ron Henriksen. "Austin is one of the largest cities in the U.S. without a close-in general aviation airport. The airport fills a much needed void in the Central Texas area."

Andrew D. Perry, A.A.E, Vice President of Development for Austin Executive Airport said such airports are proven magnets of high value aircraft, which contribute to the local tax base. "We are certain that Austin Executive will have a positive impact on the Austin area, creating new employment opportunities, providing tax base enrichment, and increasing revenue to the Austin area," said Perry.

Austin Executive is actively pre-leasing hangar space and seeking aircraft maintenance, avionic and paint shops, along with other aviation businesses for the airport.
