Stolen Cirrus Lands At LAX

Plane Taken From Marietta, GA

Los Angeles authorities are investigating an unauthorized landing of a Cirrus SR22 G3 Turbo at LAX early Friday morning. The airplane was was originally reported as having been stolen from Marietta, GA, but additional details now reveal that the aircraft was taken from San Diego, where the owner indicates that a spare set of keys left with a flight school were used by the thief to abscond with the plane.

Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the FBI, told The Associated Press that airport police contacted the agency following the pre-dawn landing in California.

The plane is registered to the Marietta brokerage firm SWT Aviation Inc., who was not available to comment.

LAPD spokesman Officer Cleon Joseph said the pilot had been apprehended and was being interviewed by the FBI. His identification is being withheld.
