Rowdy Fans Sentenced

Things got out of hand, on a December charter from Vigo, Spain, to an ultimately unplanned landing in Cardiff. Some of the things that brought the plane down early, as it carried european football (soccer) fans home:

  • Teens had illegally smuggled vodka onto the plane.
  • Someone lit a cigarette in the lavatory.
  • Passengers were creating "ugly scenes."
  • When the other PAX heard that the plane would be delayed as the above culprits were searched out and removed from the plane, they, too started getting rambunctious.
  • One female FA was hit, by a still-unknown assailant.

Eventually the flight arrived at its Glasgow destination, 12 hours late.

Things were so bad on the flight, in fact, that the cockpit issued a Mayday, before diverting to the best-available airport.

The fallout from the flight home of the Celtics fans, so far, has come down to four convictions. As reported in Scotland's Evening Times, "...Joseph Duffy, 19, of East Kilbride, was fined £150 with £35 costs after admitting being drunk on board an airplane. A 17-year-old, who cannot be named, admitted being drunk and smoking. He was fined £200 with £35 costs. James Brennan, 42, of Inverclyde, and Hugh Haggerty, 37, of Glasgow, admitted behaving in an abusive, threatening or disorderly manner. Each was fined £100 with £35 costs."

There were 148 PAX aboard, altogether, on this "flight of the damned." Be glad you weren't among them.
