United Aviate Taps APS for UPRT Lessons

Students Will Receive Instruction in Inflight Loss of Control Prevention, Upset Recovery

Aviation Performance Solutions (APS)has been selected to provide its specialty training at United's Aviate Academy.

The United Airlines training facility will make use of APS' Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) to provide enhanced education covering Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I) hazards. The school in Goodyear, Arizona is one of a handful of similar efforts by the industry to begin fostering its own future pilot base, and this agreement may signify one of the real benefits of training with the big guys: Professionalism.

For the average Part 61 student scrimping to afford a C152's wet rate, an APS education remains a somewhat lofty proposition, but United's deep pockets will allow Aviate students to pick up some UPRT instruction at no extra cost. The curriculum will include "APS’ comprehensive training program" with "the latest advancements in UPRT effectiveness". Some of that instruction will be traditional classroom learning, some sim time, and some flight training, allowing for a well-rounded student pilot at the end of their time at Aviate.

“We are committed to training our student pilots to make sound decisions at a moment’s notice to keep themselves and their passengers safe,” said United Aviate Academy CEO, Dana Donati. “The integrated upset recovery program provided by APS places our flight school on the leading edge of the industry’s most advanced LOC-I training.”

“APS is honored to play a key role in United Aviate Academy’s expansive flight training program,” said CEO of Aviation Performance Solutions, Paul BJ Ransbury. “It is the responsibility of flight schools worldwide to implement effective, transferable, and industry-standardized LOC-I solutions for student pilots that teach them how to expeditiously and correctly recognize, prevent or recover from an airplane upset, the precursor condition to LOC-I.”
