Wichita's Stearman Field Bar & Grill Has A New Owner

John Arnold Expands His Wichita Restaurant Holdings With Airport Eatery

A well-known Wichita restaurateur has purchased the Stearman Field Bar & Grill adjacent to Stearman Field Airport.

The new owner is John Arnold. The airport eatery is his fourth Wichita-area restaurant.

The Wichita Eagle reports that Arnold is a self-described "airplane buff". He said when was introduced to the previous owners by mutual friends, he thought the restaurant was "the coolest place I'd ever seen." So he made owners Monte and Yvette Ysidro an offer, which the accepted.

The restaurant has been open since 2010. Airport owners Dwayne and Julie Clemens thought the field needed such an amenity, as most airport restaurants were always busy, in their experience. So they remodeled an existing building at the airport, adding a grill, a fryer and a couple of freezers. It's become a popular spot for aviation buffs with its runway views, and currently offers breakfast, lunch, dinner and a weekend brunch.

Arnold told the paper that he plans to make a few changes, but does not want to alter the overall "vibe" of the place, because he thinks it's "awesome" as it is. “I don’t think anything is wrong with the restaurant, or wouldn’t have bought it. It’s pretty neat,” he said.
