CAMCOPTER S-100 Squadron Used To Protect The 2024 Olympics

The Schiebel UAS Employed to Secure and Monitor Paris Waters

The 2024 Olympic Ceremony took place in Paris, France. To secure the waters around the event, the French Navy utilized the Schiebel CAMCOPTER S-100 Unmanned Aerial System (UAS).

The Schiebel group was founded in 1951 in Vienna. They have built a worldwide reputation in both military and general environments. Their locations span across several countries, including Austria, France, the USA, the UAE, and Australia. Currently, they focus on production and experimentation of the “revolutionary” CAMCOPTER S-100 UAS.

The CAMCOPTER S-100 is a VTOL device using fly-by-wire technology. The UAS has a carbon fiber and titanium fuselage meant to provide a healthy payload and endurance mix. With standard configuration, this AVGas-powered UAS can carry a 75 lb payload for up to 10 hours of flight time, and reach a ceiling of 18,000 ft. These features, along with its BVLOS capability of 108nm and real-time imagery, provided Olympic officials with constant coverage of the busy waters surrounding the ceremony.

During these operations, the CAMCOPTER S-100 was equipped with a high-performance EO/IR camera and an Automatic Identification System. These features were meant to help authorities more efficiently monitor the sailing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing events occurring toward Marseille.

“It is an honor,” commented Lubos Sramek, Director of Schiebel Aéronaval SAS in Toulon, “that the French Navy utilized their S-100 Squadron to monitor the surroundings of the Olympic Games. This is another great use case for the CAMCOPTER and shows the versatility of applications and capabilities."
