DeltaHawk Engine Option Announced for Select Bearhawk Models

Racine, Wisconsin-based DeltaHawk Engines Inc. and Bearhawk Aircraft have partnered to develop a firewall-forward package by which DeltaHawk’s new DHK180 jet-fuel-burning piston engines may be installed in Bearhawk’s Four-Place aircraft.

DeltaHawk’s new DHK180 received FAA Type Certification in May 2023 and will presently go into full production; deliveries of customer engines are slated to commence in the first half of 2024.

In addition to burning jet fuel, the clean-sheet-design DHK180 engine offers operators ease of operation, high fuel-efficiency, reduced maintenance, and superior altitude performance—compared to traditional aircraft piston engines.

Bearhawk Aircraft president Mark Goldberg stated: “We are contacted often by pilots all over the world in locations where 100LL avgas is unavailable or very expensive.  For these builders, the DeltaHawk offers a great option.  In addition, many builders in the USA want alternative engine choices.  The economical and Jet A burning DeltaHawk will be attractive.”

DeltaHawk director of marketing and certification Dennis Webb set forth: “Bearhawk designs are extraordinary aircraft in terms of payload and STOL capability, combined with fast cruise speeds. The DeltaHawk DHK180 in a Bearhawk will significantly expand its capabilities—especially with regards to altitude performance, range, and lower cost of operation.”

Development of DeltaHawk’s new Bearhawk engine installation package is underway. Both companies are eager to provide Bearhawk builders opportunity to power their machines with the innovative, high-performing, and economical DHK180 mill.

Both DeltaHawk Engines and Bearhawk Aircraft will be exhibiting at EAA AirVenture 2023. DeltaHawk will occupy exhibit spaces 226 – 228 outside of DeltaHawk Hangar D. Bearhawk Aircraft will exhibit its four-place Bearhawk, Model 5, and STOL contest-winning Patrol models in spaces 608 and 609.

Designed by renowned engineer Bob Barrows and available in kit or plan form, Bearhawk aircraft are highly-regarded for their exemplary bush flying capabilities, robust design, large cargo areas, and high (for STOL machines) cruise-speeds. Bearhawk Aircraft currently offers: the Bearhawk four-Place Model B, Bearhawk Patrol, Bearhawk Companion, Bearhawk LSA, and new Bearhawk six-seat Model-5.
