Skydiving Takeoff Crash Claims Life

August 1st Accident Injured 5 Others

A Cessna 185, a workhorse much loved by the skydiving community for its ability to handle 6 people on board and operate off all manner of unimproved strips, went down last week shortly after takeoff, which resulted in serious injuries to all aboard. Unfortunately; ANN has learned that one of the jumpers on board has perished as a result of this accident.

Friday Ceremony Installs Lt. Col. Pellegrino As New CO

Marine Corps Air Station (MCB Hawaii) welcomed its new commanding officer Aug. 6th, during a change of command ceremony. After two years as commanding officer of MCAS, Lt. Col. Michael Antonio of Coral Springs, Fla., handed command over to Lt. Col. Jeffrey “J.P.” Pellegrino. Antonio will be the new director of Operations and Training for Marine Corps Base Hawaii.

Holy smokes! Oshkosh 2010 is now history... and it nearly was exactly that. For the first time in my memory (having done some 38 of these things... I think), there was some serious question about whether or not Oshkosh 2010 was actually going to happen... or whether it was going to go (literally) down the drain. Storm, in the weeks ahead of the event kept everything soggy and torrential rains on the eve of the event itself caused flooding the likes of which we've never seen in Wisconsin... and giving us serious concern as whether we'd be leaving Oshkosh by plane, SUV... or U-Boat.

Event To Take Place at Flight 93 National Memorial

Laura W. Bush will serve as the keynote speaker at a ceremony on September 11, 2010 to honor the 40 heroes of United Flight 93. While fighting to resist a terrorist attack on the nation's capital, the passengers and crewmembers lost their lives when their plane crashed in a field near Shanksville, PA on September 11, 2001. The ceremony will be held at the Western Overlook at the Flight 93 National Memorial.

Got A Small Satellite You Want To Orbit????

NASA has announced a second opportunity for small satellite payloads to fly on rockets planned to launch in 2011 and 2012. These CubeSats could be auxiliary cargo on previously planned missions. CubeSats are a class of research spacecraft called nanosatellites. The cube-shaped satellites are approximately four inches long, have a volume of about one quart and weigh less than 2.2 pounds.

It was the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project, the first international human spaceflight. On July 15, 1975, an Apollo spacecraft launched carrying a crew of three and docked two days later on July 17, with a Soyuz spacecraft and its crew of two.
