Kissimmee Gateway Hangar Recognized As Aviation Project Of The Year

Award Presented By The Southeast Chapter Of The American Association Of Airport Executives

An airport hangar, constructed jointly between Kissimmee Gateway Airport and SunState Aviation, recently received the award for Aviation Project of the Year for Architecture, given by the Southeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives (SEC-AAAE).

SunState Aviation was founded in the spring of 2002 when President and co-founder Steve Graham saw a need for a quality flight training center which would both serve the needs of local student pilots as well as being a prime location for an Accelerated Flight Training Center.  Starting with one airplane and 500 square feet of rented space, SunState is now home to a 16,000 square foot state of the art training center and a large fleet of quality training aircraft, and is America's premier Accelerated Flight Training Center.

“The innovative design and eye catching architectural features of the hangar were the direct result of AVCON’S talented team capturing SunState Aviation’s vision for their facility, which has now set the standard for future redevelopment of this portion of the airport.  Our preliminary design for the future replacement control tower, to be located adjacent to the SunState complex, reflected many of the same design elements and colors in the SunState design, and will carry over to future facilities as they develop”  says Terry Lloyd, A.A.E. Director of Aviation Kissimmee Gateway Airport.
