FAA Approves Robinson Rotor Blade Service Life Extensions

Applies To Main And Tail Rotor Blades On R22 And R44 Models

Robinson Helicopter Company has received approval from the FAA to extend the service life of the main and tail rotor blades on the R22 and R44 models from 12 to 15 years, allegedly making those models more affordable to operate and maintain.

Robinson utilized rigorous testing and data analysis to demonstrate the extended durability and reliability of the rotor blades. The FAA-approved extension enables owners and operators of R22 and R44 helicopters to maintain their aircraft at optimal performance levels while reducing downtime and the cost of maintenance while improving operational efficiency.

David Smith, President and CEO of Robinson Helicopter Company said, "This is a huge improvement for R22 and R44 operators and a testament to the quality and engineering behind our aircraft. Reduced maintenance intervals mean greater cost-efficiency and reliability, reaffirming our dedication to providing industry-leading solutions for our customers.”

Robinson has implemented specific maintenance requirements for the R22 and R44 helicopters as described in the Airworthiness Limitations Sections (ALS) that includes a list of fatigue life-limited parts. The company emphasizes that regular inspections and maintenance as outlined in the ALS are essential to ensure the safety and reliability of the aircraft.
