Indonesian Con Man Poses As Pilot, Targets Flight Attendants

Reportedly Convinced 50 Women To Give Him Nearly $15,000

A young man in an airline captain's uniform was able to con some 50 flight attendants out of the equivalent of nearly $15,000 before being arrested on an unrelated charge.

The "Catch Me If You Can" wannabe was 25-year-old Rido Roeslan. The Irish Sun reports that Roeslan would put on the uniform and then walk around airports in Indonesia, striking up conversations with attractive female flight attendants. Police in Indonesia said that he would then arrange dates with the women, and claim he need them to wire him £300 ... about $370. He would tell them that he was of work, and could go see them, but needed to borrow the money. After the transfer was completed, he would vanish and change the number on his cell phone.

Police Chief Commissioner Zainal Azhab said he eventually convinced as many as 50 women to give him about 200 million Indonesian Rupees, or just under $15,000 according to the report.

Police said Roeslan worked mostly at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Indonesian capital Jakarta. He was arrested while trying to steal an iPhone, and confessed to the swindles, according to the report.

Azhab said that the victims generally transferred between one and five million Indonesian Rupees to Roeslan. "We will try to find all the victims who've been cheated to help develop the case," he said.
