Ariana Buys Boeing Jets

Company Selects Medium And Short-Haul Planes

According to Boeing, Ariana Afghan Airlines, the government-owned and -operated airline of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, has committed to acquire six Boeing jets. Four of the new 737-700s will be purchased outright and two 757-200s leased from Boeing Capital.

The deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2009. The airline has long operated Boeing aircraft and currently operates four elderly Boeing 727-200s along with a pair of Airbus 300s.

Many of these planes are replacements for other Ariana 727-200s (file photo of type, above) destroyed on the ground by US bombing in 2001, during hostilities between the USA and the terrorist-sponsoring, Islamic extremist Taliban government.
