Advanced Scope G5000 Installed On Beechjet 400A

Bevan Rabell Completes Second Installation In The Retrofit Program

Wichita, KS-based avionics firm Bevan Rabell recently completed the installation of the Garmin G5000 advanced flight deck on their second Beechjet 400A. This Garmin G5000 retrofit program completely replaced all existing avionics, including the autopilot within the designated aircraft. In addition, the Garmin G5000 System installation meets all December 31st, 2019 FAA ADS-B In and Out compliance requirements.

“This advanced pilot-vehicle interface was an excellent avionics installation fit for our team of certified technicians,” expressed Kent McIntyre, Owner and President of Bevan Rabell, Inc. “It takes Bevan Rabell to a new level of equipment and raises the industry standard for what’s capable to revitalize these aging aircraft.”

In August 2016, Garmin was granted the STC for the integrated flight deck suite by the FAA. This series of equipment takes several avionics out of the existing aircraft panel and displays them on three high-resolution, 12-inch flight displays. Also included are two primary flight displays in the pilot and co-pilot position.

“The installation takes hundreds of man hours with multiple technicians working throughout the aircraft. There are 167 pages [of prints] making it one of our most complicated and yet,  rewarding, completions,” said Scott Merchant, Lead Technician with Bevan Rabell, Inc.

The second installation was finished in 25% less time than the first. These hours are expected to decrease even further as technicians become more familiar with the aircraft and installation.

“We reduced the time in our second installation since we were also able to complete the Textron Winglet installation simultaneously,” explained McIntyre. “Our goal is always getting an aircraft back to airworthiness as soon as possible.”

Textron Aviation was contracted by a Bevan Rabell customer to install the winglets on each aircraft. Installations took place in the Bevan Rabell hangar. Installing both the G5000 and winglets simultaneously allowed for faster installation and less down time. Currently, Textron Aviation and Bevan Rabell are discussing the opportunity for joint installations on a fleet of Beechjets owned by Textron.

Bevan Rabell is planning a third Beechjet renovation for Second Quarter 2017.
