AD: Airbus Helicopters

AD NUMBER: 2018-08-01

PRODUCT: Airbus Helicopters Model EC225LP helicopters.

ACTION: Final rule; request for comments.

SUMMARY: This AD requires inspecting each main rotor rotating swashplate (swashplate) control rod attachment yoke (yoke).

This AD is prompted by a finding that the yoke is susceptible to cracking.

DATES: This AD becomes effective May 8, 2018. Comments must be received by June 22, 2018.

COST: The FAA estimates that this AD affects 5 helicopters of U.S. Registry. The FAA estimates that operators may incur the following costs in order to comply with this AD. Labor costs are estimated at $85 per workhour.

Inspecting the yokes takes about 0.25 work-hour for an estimated cost of $21 per helicopter and $105 for the U.S. fleet per inspection cycle. Replacing a swashplate takes about 6 work-hours and parts cost about $82,000 for an estimated cost of $82,510 per helicopter.
