Sikorsky To Increase Its Alabama Workforce

Workers Needed To Meet Demand For H-60s

Sikorsky has announced plans to double the workforce at its Troy, AL production facility.

The comany says it needs 250 riveters and assemblers to meet additional production demand there. The demand comes from a new contract to supply the US Navy with H-60 Naval Hawk helicopters, variants of the UH-60 Black Hawk.

"This decision by Sikorsky to expand its operations in Troy further cements a successful partnership between the company and the state that is growing jobs and improving the quality of life for many of our citizens," said Alabama Gov. Bob Riley.

The Troy plant builds major assemblies and sub-assemblies for the choppers, including tail cones and cabins.

The announcment puncuates a year of growth for Sikorsky. In the past 11 months, Sikorsky has hired nearly 600 new engineers for its Connecticut and Florida operations, hired 50 hourly employees in Florida, opened a new engineering center in Huntsville, AL and announced plans to open another engineering center in Fort Worth, TX in 2007.

The company has also opened engineering design centers staffed by third-party engineering service providers in Indiana, Kentucky and Montana.

Sikorsky will begin its recruitment activities immediately via the company’s employment Web site, available at the first FMI link below, and augment the effort with local advertising and other hiring events in upcoming weeks.
