US Airways Flights Bump On The Tarmac At Charlotte

Both Planes Slightly Damaged, FAA Investigating

Two US Airways jets bumped into each other during taxi operations at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport Saturday. Damage to both aircraft was minor, but both flights were cancelled as a precaution.

US Airways confirms that the wing of one plane hit the rudder of the other. No one was injured as the result of the collision.

In all, some 450 passengers were affected by the incident. The people on a domestic flight to San Fransisco were placed on later flights to their destination. But about 280 aboard a flight headed for Frankfurt, Germany, were put up in a hotel near the airport and given food vouchers by the airline. All were expected to be on a plane to Germany Sunday.

Television station WSOC-TV reports that US Airways says the planes were grounded because the airline did not want to take any chances. It is still not known why the airplanes touched, and the airline would not disclose exactly how much damaged occurred in the incident.
