Maryland Teen Who Survived Alaska Accident Released From The Hospital

Thirteen-Year-Old's Father Was Among Those Fatally Injured In the Crash

The youngest person to survive an Alaska plane crash which killed former Senator Ted Stevens has been released from Children's Hospital at Providence and is on his way back to Maryland. 13-year-old Willy Phillips Jr. lost his father, Bill Phillips, when the airplane went down in marginal weather near Dillingham, AK last week.

In a statement, Willy's mother Janet Phillips praised the first responders and medical personnel "for their heroic efforts the night they spent on the mountain with Willy," according to CNN.

Former NASA administrator Sean O'Keefe and his 19 year old son Kevin were the only other survivors from the accident.

Willy's father Bill had been an aide to Senator Stevens during his time in Washington. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the NTSB.
