Grand Opening Of Austin Executive Airport Grand Opening Set For June 8

Three Years And $33 Million Invested In Construction And Development At Former "Birds Nest"

After more than 3 years of construction and development, pilots across the country will soon have access to Austin Executive Airport (KEDC), which will officially open Wednesday, June 8. The plans call for a reception at 1300 local time followed by a Grand Opening Ceremony and tours of the facility.

Austin Executive Airport

As part of Austin Executive's $33 million Master Plan, once complete, the airport will boast a variety of amenities including Henriksen Jet Center, a 27,500-square-foot FBO terminal building, a 6,025-foot runway and taxiway, fuel farm and a 29,000-square-foot corporate hangar which can accommodate up to Gulfstream V aircraft along with a 140 X 85 arrival canopy.

Airport owner and developer Ron Henriksen continues to make his mark with the private development of airports. The former corporate pilot found his fortune in the telecommunications business, but his passion for aviation - and his deep concern for the industry - led him to open Houston Executive Airport in 2007, built on the site of a former crop-dusting facility.

Turning his sights to Austin - one of the largest cities in the U.S. without a general aviation reliever airport - Henriksen purchased Bird's Nest, a once-vibrant airport located about 15 miles northeast of downtown Austin. "It is a proud moment for me, my family and the aviation community," said Henriksen.  "For more than a decade, the state of Texas has been trying to build an airport in the Austin area. There is no doubt that it will be a draw for further economic growth, and will improve aviation infrastructure throughout the state."

Andrew D. Perry, A.A.E. Vice President for Development, said he is actively seeking aircraft maintenance, avionic and paint shops, along with other aviation businesses for the airport. "We are currently marketing to the aviation industry for base and transient aircraft, and aircraft maintenance, management and related businesses," said Perry. "We are ready and eager to partner with the aviation community in making Austin Executive Airport the new benchmark for service and amenities."
