SUBJECT: Airworthiness Directive 2010-18-11

SUMMARY: This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) originated by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI describes the unsafe condition as:

During maintenance at the vendor's facility, some HSTAs [horizontal stabilizer trim actuators] were assembled with the incorrect load bearing balls. The material of these discrepant balls has lower wear characteristics and as such, has a shorter expected life. If not corrected, this condition can result in the HSTA jam leading to difficulties in controlling the aircraft. The unsafe condition is possible loss of controllability of the airplane. This AD requires actions that are intended to address the unsafe condition described in the MCAI.
