Aero-TV: Avidyne’s IFD100 For iPad: A Powerful New Tool For Flight Management

Add IFD Capability To Your Cockpit…

While at Sun ‘n Fun 2016, ANN News Editor, Tom Patton, talked with Avidyne about their new IFD100 for iPad. Tom talked with Tom Harper, the Director of Marketing for the Avidyne Corporation to get the scoop on this new app.

During the demonstration, Harper is using an iPad Pro, but he says it can be used on a regular iPad or an iPad mini. The way Harper puts it, it’s like having another IFD in the cockpit. He says it does everything that the panel mounted IFD can do by having IFD information transmitted to the iPad through a Wi-Fi signal. Basically, it provides the pilot with the large screen capability without having a high dollar all-glass cockpit.

It’s explained that the Wi-Fi is provided by the IFD550, and it’s an upgrade option on the IFD540. This means no separate Wi-Fi device is required for the app to work. And here’s the best part for operators that currently have an IFD product installed in their panel… The app is free.

As you listen-in on the detailed discussion, the video provides a mini learning tool for how the whole thing operates. With the world going wireless, we guess it’s time for cockpits to do the same thing.
