Embry-Riddle Adds Women’s Scholarship

Registry of Aruba Sponsors Female Aviators

The Registry of Aruba, an all-in-one Category-1 aircraft registry service for privacy-minded operators, has established a scholarship progrm in their name in conjunction with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

The initiative is geared towards girls who wish to pursue programs in aviation at ERAU’s Daytona Beach Campus, with $6,000 awarded to a successful freshman every year throughout her time at the College of Aviation.

“As part of our mission to help bridge the gender gap in the aviation industry, we have established The Registry of Aruba Scholarship with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In addition to offering financial support, we aim to mentor the recipient as she initiates her career. We are beyond excited for this journey and feel fortunate to be able to establish a female-forward initiative,” said Alexandria Colindres, CEO at the Registry.

The first Alumni to gain the scholarship, Masa Alkodsi, said “My end goal as a woman in aviation is to inspire young girls to think about a career in not just aviation, but the STEM field in general. One of my biggest goals through life, amplified by being honored with the Registry of Aruba Scholarship, is to inspire more girls and young women to pursue their dreams in STEM related fields.”

Women in Aviation, International says that despite the presence of female pilots since the earliest days of flight, including E. Lillian Todd, Helen Richey, and the infamous Amelia Earhart, total pilots today only account for 6% of total certificated operators. The “gender gap” has remained a stubborn issue to address, with more than a few issues preventing the addition of more female participants. With problems ranging from a lack of awareness of available tuition assistance, a failure to provide clear and achievable pathways to success, or even a dearth of enthusiasm. Aviation is often seen to be a passion career in some, precluding their consideration of it as a suitable monetary foundation. The Registry of Aruba scholarship is only one of the adjuncts available for interested students, with additional support available from across a range of programs.
