Sole Sudan Crash Survivor Flown To London

Three-Year Old Boy Will Get Special Treatment In UK

A three-year old boy who was the only survivor of a 737 crash in Sudan earlier this week arrived in London for medical treatment yesterday. The Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children said Mohammed el-Fateh Osman was conscious and in stable condition.

"Until we have carried out a full assessment there is little we can say about his case," the London hospital said in a statement. Sabaa alone survived when the Boeing 737 crashed just after take-off on a flight from Port Sudan to Khartoum. The cause of the crash is being investigated by Sudanese aviation experts.

The president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahayan,has pledged to pay for the boy's treatment. Mohamed lost the lower part of his right calf in Tuesday's crash, but flames had sealed the wound, keeping him from bleeding to death, an airline official said Thursday. About 15 percent of the boy's body was burned in the crash, in which his mother was killed.

The 737's black boxes were both recovered by Sudanese recovery teams during the week. They're also being flown to London for analysis.
