B777 Check Captain Thinks He Knows Approximate Location Of MH370

Lost Aircraft May Be Located In The Next Four Weeks, Industry Believes

An ATSB-contracted survey ship has returned to a location identified 11 months ago by a Boeing 777 check captain that may be the the spot where MH370 went down in the Indian Ocean.

The West Australian newspaper relays a report that indicates calculations made by Capt. Simon Hardy, who is also a mathematician, may pinpoint the location of the airliner lost 20 months ago. The only trace of the airplane found so far has been a flaperon that washed up on Reunion Island earlier this year.

Hardy's calculations have reportedly held up to intense scrutiny on the Internet. He posits that the airplane went down just outside the 60,000 square mile area that was the initial focus of the search. In April, that area was doubled to 120,000 square miles.

By Hardy's calculations, the plane went down at the "extreme range" of the B777, given its load of passengers and cargo.

Because the pilot's assertions, some in the industry feel that the airplane will be found sometime in the next four weeks. The ship Fugro Discovery is expected to have completed the search of the area identified by Hardy by December 3.
