Location: Upland, CA Accident Number: WPR20LA132
Date & Time: 04/27/2020, 0825 PDT Registration: N1222C
Aircraft: COOK SONEX Injuries: 1 None
Flight Conducted Under: Part 91: General Aviation - Personal

On April 27, 2020, at 0825 Pacific daylight time, an experimental Cook Sonex airplane, N1222C, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Cable Airport (CCB), Upland, California. The pilot, the sole occupant, was not injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 as a personal flight.

The pilot was interviewed by a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Inspector. The pilot stated that the airplane had just come out of an annual inspection a couple of days before the accident and he had flown for about 2 hours. On the day of the accident he had flown toward Cajon Pass, came back to CCB, landed, and taxied back to the active runway to take off. He applied power during the takeoff initial climb and the engine began to lose power. At this point, the airplane was near the end of the runway and at a low altitude.

The pilot continued straight ahead and made a forced landing in an open field.
