Lancair, Barrett Engines Team Up For High-Performance Engine Line

More Power!

You can almost hear television character Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor harumphing in the background... as Lancair International and Barrett Precision Engines told ANN Friday the companies have teamed up to offer a new line of Lancair Reno Edition Engines. And you know what that means... MORE POWER!

The companies state the Lancair Reno Edition Engine line starts with a remanufactured "zero-time engine." The block is then custom painted in Lancair's Reno dark cherry red. Custom valve covers are installed, along with a matched enameled induction system.

But enough with the cosmetics... we're talking about more power, right? That's where Barrett Precision Engines, Inc. steps in. Founded by Monty Barrett in 1984, the company builds high performance piston aircraft engines for many of the world's most successful pilots, including a number of air show and race pilots.

For the Lancair Reno Edition, Barrett enhances the engine's performance by blue-printing the engine, and installing 10:1 forged pistons; dynamically balancing all rotating parts within 1 gram-inch; installing as an option CermiNil cylinder barrels and rings; flow balancing all valves to improve volumetric efficiency; and performing a full hour of testing including a 100% power run to ensure the engine is creating rated horsepower with minute-to-minute dyno reporting.

With Lancair’s FastBuild Engine program, builders may also cut down the time it takes to put that power to their planes. All aluminum baffling is installed, and all high temperature silicone die-cut baffling is attached. All oil lines and fuel lines are also installed and routed; additionally, Lancair’s performance exhaust is installed.

Builders may also take advantage of Lancair Avionics' engine harness... which allows the engine to be ready to run in as little as two hours.

Also founded in 1984, Lancair International Inc. is celebrating its 23rd year selling the world’s most successful kit aircraft manufactured in both high performance piston and turbine models. Lancair manufactures the fastest amateur built piston-driven aircraft in the world.

Lancair offers kits for seven aircraft: Lancair Legacy FG, Lancair Legacy, Lancair ES, Lancair ES-P, Lancair IV, Lancair IV-P, and the Lancair PropJet. To date the company has delivered over 2,000 kits; Lancair aircraft have also set several world speed records and dominated the Sports Class at the Reno Air Races for several years.
