RMAF PC-7 Crash Claims Student Pilot

Lieutenant Mai Elny Sefrina Jalaludin, a pilot-in-training of the Royal Malaysian Air Force, was killed Tuesday when her Pilatus PC-7 trainer crashed about 12:20PM, an hour into its flight from the RMAF College in Alor Setar.

The crash that killed Ms. Jalaludin, 23, did no appreciable damage on the ground, although some rubber trees on a plantation were destroyed. At least one worker got a scare, as the airplane passed within 50 meters of his position.

A postcrash fire engulfed much of the wreckage and dozens more trees, as the debris fiels was about 100 feet in diameter, reports said.

Lieutenant Jalaludin was one of a select group of pioneering women in flight training in the RMAF.

The plantation is located near Kampung Lembah Keriang in Sintok near Jitra, Kedah.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
