Running Aero-News is a tough busy gig... but there are times
when it's pure joy... like those times when you get to climb into a
300HP Waco YMF 5-D bipe and head for Valhalla. Pity that poor
Campbell guy... work, work, work!
On Monday, May 17th, 2010, WACO Classic Aircraft Corporation
announced the FAA certification of the WACO YMF 5-D aircraft.
The updated WACO model is the culmination of nearly two years of
engineering, development and testing.
The all-new FAA and EASA certified aircraft is built from the
ground-up to customer specifications including color and paint
scheme, leather and carpet, and avionics equipment.
Over 5000 labor hours of hand-built craftsmanship goes into each
aircraft, providing customers with an array of updated features
including the use of 4130 steel framing and modern hydraulic toe
brakes. The WACO YMF 5-D includes the computer-designed MT
elliptical tip propeller and all-new, optional 300hp fuel-injected
Jacobs radial engine to provide smoother, more optimized
performance.
In addition, the aircraft features the optional top-of-the-line
Garmin IFR instrument package including the all-glass Garmin G600
Advanced MFD display, two Garmin 430 WAAS GPS units, GI-106a
VOR/LOC/GS/GPS indicator, and a Mid-Continent 2 ¼" backup
attitude indicator with battery system.
Founded in 1983, the Classic Aircraft Corporation sought to
recreate the fifty-year-old design into a modern aircraft certified
to the original FAA type certificate from 1935. Using a talented
engineering team from the likes of Piper, Taylorcraft, and Ford,
the company premiered its first FAA certified model in March of
1986. Join Aero-TV as President Peter Bowers introduces the
latest WACO reincarnation to hit the market.
