Collaboration Delivers Highly Cost-Effective Solutions To Equip Legacy Aircraft With RNP (0.3), ADS-B, CPDLC, Other NextGen Capabilities
FreeFlight Systems has announced it is partnering with Accord Technology LLC of Phoenix, AZ, to develop WAAS GPS systems to retrofit legacy transport category aircraft with state-of-the-art capabilities for NextGen airspace operations. The companies are focusing on practical and highly cost-effective ARINC 429 solutions that enable operators of proven commercial and business aircraft to meet ADS-B, RNP (0.3) and other performance-based navigation mandates worldwide.
The companies already have produced the FreeFlight Systems Model 1203C WAAS GPS. Featuring a 15-channel GPS, a 5x/second position update rate and an ARINC 429 interface, the 1203C is easily integrated with existing navigation and flight management systems. It fulfills GPS position source requirements for RNP (0.3), ADS-B and Controller-Pilot Datalink Communications (CPDLC) equipage mandates. The performance, price and compact size make the 1203C a readily cost-justified retrofit in most legacy commercial and business aircraft.
“Accord Technology and FreeFlight Systems have a longstanding collaboration and deep experience in technically advanced WAAS GPS systems,” said Hal Adams, Chief Operating Officer at Accord Technology. “Our combined focus on ARINC 429 NextGen solutions make it possible for commercial and business operators to equip proven, reliable aircraft with state-of-the-art capabilities.”
“The WAAS GPS systems that Accord and FreeFlight Systems produce eliminate the cost and practical barriers to modernizing aircraft avionics with NextGen capabilities,” said Tim Taylor, CEO of FreeFlight Systems. “We look forward to continuing our long and successful partnership with Accord Technology producing high-performance ARINC 429 WAAS GPS solutions.”
