Sporty’s New IFR Focus For Instrument Pilots

Online Publication For Safer, Smarter IFR Flying

Sporty’s announced the introduction of IFR Focus, a new online publication dedicated entirely to instrument flying. It is designed for both active IFR pilots as well as those working toward the instrument rating, and it offers practical, pilot-centered advice on staying sharp within the IFR system.

IFR Focus will deliver fresh new content every week, produced and written by a team of experienced CFIs, pro pilots, and those who use the system regularly as active instrument flyers.

The content will be diverse and varied, from real-world articles and video tips to interactive scenarios, quizzes, and instrument flight maneuvers. It’s all designed to help pilots keep their skills up when flying in IFR conditions, keeping them safer, smoother, and smarter.

Eric Radtke, editor of IFR Focus said, “At its core, instrument flying is about proficiency—not just staying legal. This new site is a place where instrument pilots can stay current, challenge themselves, and pick up practical techniques they can use right away.”

Every month, the publication will feature a signature piece called Practical IFR, written by respected instructor and aviation author Jeff Van West. The series, intended as the flagship series for IFR Focus, takes a deep dive into IFR topics from the real world, including clearance nuances and avionics best practices, and also brings videos for clarity and quizzes.

Subscribers to the free IFR Focus monthly email receive a roundup of new content, curated to include the latest Practical IFR feature article, video tips, and timely and relevant techniques for flying in the system.
