First Production Fire Scout Rolls Out Today

Northrop Grumman Corporation's Integrated Systems sector will roll out the first production U.S. Navy RQ-8A Fire Scout vertical takeoff and landing tactical unmanned vehicle and ground control system at a ceremony for customers, civic leaders and employees this afternoon, at the company's Ryan Aeronautical Center in San Diego.

Flying at altitudes up to 20,000 feet, the fully-autonomous Fire Scout system employs an advanced payload with an electro-optical/infrared sensor including a laser designator/rangefinder. The Fire Scout can provide intelligence, reconnaissance and surveillance information with pinpoint accuracy to U.S. naval commanders at sea and Marine Corps forces ashore.
