Hartzell Engine Technologies Acquires Plane Power, Other Technologies

Texas Plant Facing Uncertain Future

By Gene Yarbrough

Hartzell Engine Technologies Vice President of Sales and Marketing Pete Schriener presented the company's new line of engine accessories acquired in the take-over from Plane-Power LTD, of Granbury TX  in a news conference at Oshkosh last week. Not Included in the deal is the Sky-Tec line of starters.

Hartzell President Mike Disbrow stated in a press release that “The purchase of Plane-Power is consistent with our strategy of growing our core product lines organically and through acquisition”. Disbrow said that the product line would eventually be relocated to the Montgomery, AL facility leaving the future of the Plane-Power employees in question.

Rich Chiappe, partner of Plane Power Partners LTD, said “This agreement will enable my partners and I to continue to, not only focus on Sky-Tec’s continuing success, but to pursue new innovations for our customers and additional growth opportunities”. Disbrow added “Hartzell Engine Technologies will continue to produce all of the Plane-Power products in Granbury, Texas under its current brand until all of the FAA Parts Manufacturing Approval (PMA) Documentation can be put into place to transfer the production to the Hartzell facility in Montgomery, Alabama.”

Hartzell’s product line includes alternators, starters, cabin heaters, turbochargers and fuel pumps.
